Pre-Race Notes and Quotes
Talladega Superspeedway
Mountain Dew 250
October 31, 2009
MALSAM AT TALLADEGA: Tayler Malsam will be making his 24th start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) when the green flag drops for the Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway Saturday afternoon. This will be Malsam’s first NCWTS start at the 2.66-mile track, but he has been to the track in an ARCA RE/MAX Series car. Malsam took part in the ARCA RE/MAX Series race in Talladega last year, but his day was cut short when he was involved in a lap 11 multi-car accident.
MALSAM’S RIDE: Crew Chief Doug Wolcott and the No. 81 team are utilizing chassis 79 for this weekend’s event. This is the same car the team utilized in the season opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Malsam drove to a 10th-place finish in that event.
MALSAM’S THOUGHTS ON TALLADEGA: “I went to Talladega last season in an ARCA car and didn’t have a lot of luck, so I’m hoping for better things this time around. Obviously the most important thing at a place like Talladega is to be around at the end, so we’ll try to be a little patient for a while and see if we can avoid any problems. Our last couple of races in the One Eighty Toyota Tundra have been a little rough, so we are hoping that we can finish the season off strong. A good finish at Talladega would get us off to a good start for this final stretch.”
THE SEASON’S STATS: The No. 81 team has posted one top-five and 10 top-10 finishes in 21 events this season. Malsam posted his best career finish at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., when he took the checkered flag in the fifth spot. He currently holds down 12th position in the driver points battle, sitting 89 markers outside the top 10.
WATCH AND LISTEN: Race coverage will be televised on SPEED and heard live on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio Channel 128, beginning at 4 p.m. (ET).
POINT AND CLICK: This Saturday is the last day during which fans can vote for their favorite driver for the Most Popular Driver Award. The results of the online balloting will be announced at the NCWTS awards banquet at the end of the season. Visit www.nascar.com for more details and to cast your vote for Tayler.
