MIKE SKINNER AND THE NO. 5 PC*MILER NAVIGATOR TEAM POST 13th PLACE EFFORT AT CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY

JOLIET, Ill. (August 29, 2009) – Mike Skinner and the No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator team were hoping the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Chicagoland Speedway would be the key to turning around what had been a couple of tough weekends for the team. Battling back from a lap down, the team was poised for a top-10 finish before falling victim to a late-race incident that left the No. 5 Toyota with damage to the right side of the truck. Skinner and his Randy Moss Motorsports team took the checkered flag in 13th place.

Because the NCWTS had never been to Chicagoland Speedway, teams were given several practice sessions Thursday to become acclimated to the track. On Friday, the No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator team was the 13th of 39 trucks to take to the track for its two-lap qualifying run. Skinner ran a speed of 169.497 miles per hour around the 1.5-mile tri-oval during his qualifying effort, which earned the team the 18th spot on the starting grid.

Though the team was somewhat disappointed with its qualifying effort, crew chief Eric Phillips and the PC*MILER Navigator crew were confident that their Toyota Tundra would race well. Mike Skinner took the green flag for the start of the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 and, by the time the first caution flag waved on lap 3, had moved up five positions and into 13th place. Skinner communicated to his team that the truck was handling tight, and when the first pit stop of the day came during a caution period on lap 22, Phillips called his driver onto pit lane for fuel and a track bar adjustment. Skinner returned to the track ahead of those competitors that took on fresh tires, and lined up for the lap-25 restart in fifth place.

Skinner fell victim in the early laps of the green flag run to those with fresh tires, but was able to maintain his position in the top 10 until making a scheduled pit stop on lap 79 of the 150-lap event. Skinner drove down pit road to the attention of his awaiting crew who filled the gas tank with fuel and sent him back to the track. Following that stop, Skinner indicated via radio that he thought he may have a right rear tire losing air. The Randy Moss Motorsports crew sprang into action and changed all four tires on lap 83. Skinner returned to the track in the 18th spot, a lap down to the leaders.

Moving back into the top 15 several laps later, Skinner let the team know that the truck had become a bit too loose. Contact with the No. 07 truck left a small hole in the nose of Skinner’s machine, but the veteran driver was able to work past traffic and into the top 12 with 75 laps to go in the event. The team got a bit of a break when a caution flag flew on lap 128 and the No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator Toyota was the recipient of the Lucky Dog award, which enabled the team to get back on the lead lap. Phillips brought Skinner into the pits for four fresh Goodyear tires and repair work to the nose of the truck during the caution period. Skinner returned to the track for the single-file restart on lap 132 holding down the 13th spot.

The team’s quest for a top-10 finish hit a snag with 11 laps left in the event. Randy Moss Motorsports teammate Tayler Malsam made contact with another truck while battling for position and, while sliding down the track, struck the right side of Skinner’s truck. Skinner maintained control of his Toyota Tundra, but was forced to pit for tires and a damage assessment of the right side of the truck. The team made several pit stops during the ensuing caution period to repair the damage and was able to remain on the lead lap. Skinner drove his wounded Tundra to a 13th-place finish.

Skinner was able to maintain his third-place position in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver point standings. He now stands 316 points behind series leader Ron Hornaday and under 100 markers out of second place.

Mike Skinner and the No. 5 Randy Moss Motorsports team will return to action at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, September 5. The Lucas Oil 200, the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the speedway, will be broadcast at 9 p.m. (ET) on SPEED TV and on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio.

LATE-RACE ACCIDENT SPOILS TOP-10 RUN AT CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY FOR TAYLER MALSAM AND THE ONE EIGHTY RACING TEAM

JOLIET, Ill. (August 29, 2009) – Tayler Malsam and the One Eighty Racing team were poised to earn their first top-five finish together in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) until an accident late in the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 at Chicagoland Speedway Friday night relegated the team to a 23rd-place result.

Because the NCWTS had never been to Chicagoland Speedway, teams were given several practice sessions Thursday to become acclimated to the track. On Friday, the No. 81 One Eighty Toyota Tundra was the sixth of 39 trucks to take to the track for qualifying. Malsam posted a speed of 169.940 miles per hour during his two-lap run around the 1.5-mile tri-oval, earning the team 15th place on the starting grid.

Malsam took the green flag for the start of the race and concentrated on finding the most comfortable line for his One Eighty Toyota. A caution flag on lap 21 of the 150-lap event enabled crew chief Doug Wolcott to call his driver in for a pit stop for fuel on lap 22. Malsam returned to the track for the restart in the ninth spot after several of his competitors took on fresh tires, and thus spent additional time on pit road.

With Wolcott coaching the young driver, Malsam continued to work on finding the best line for his truck. Wolcott made air pressure and track bar adjustments during several pit stops in the early stages of the race, and Malsam communicated to the team that the truck was handling pretty well near the half way point of the event. With a round of scheduled pit stops in the works, Malsam worked his way into the top five and eventually led lap 90 before making a stop of his own on lap 92.

Malsam remained in the top 10 and found that his truck handled well after the initial 10 laps of a run. Wolcott asked his driver to conserve fuel with 50 laps left in the event as he had hopes of running to the end with making another pit stop. Malsam was able to remain in the top 10, and the team had hopes of posting its best finish of the season until running into trouble on lap 137. As Malsam battled the No. 24 truck for position heading into turn one, the two made contact. Malsam did his best to control his truck, but was hit by several others while sliding down the track. Eventually coming to a stop in the wet grass, Malsam was unable to get the truck back to the track and was forced to let NASCAR officials tow the battered Tundra to the garage.

The team assessed the damage, but with less than 15 laps remaining in the race, was unable to return to the track. The One Eighty team was credited with a 23rd-place finish.

“This is a rough way to finish what was probably going to end up being a pretty good night for us,” Malsam said following the accident. “We struggled a bit with the handling of the One Eighty Toyota Tundra in the early stages of the race, but Doug and the guys worked on the truck every chance they had, and by the last 100 laps or so, the truck handled a lot better. It’s disappointing, especially since this is the second week in a row that we haven’t finished the race, but like I said, the guys did a nice job working on our truck and at least we were in contention for a good finish when this happened.”

Malsam and his Randy Moss Motorsports team fell to the 13th position in both the driver and owner points battles, but still stand only 15 markers outside of the top 10 and 154 points outside the of the top five.

Tayler Malsam and the No. 81 Randy Moss Motorsports team will return to action at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, September 5. The Lucas Oil 200, the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the speedway, will be broadcast at 9 p.m. (ET) on SPEED TV and on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio.

Mike Skinner – No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator Toyota Tundra

Pre-Race Notes and Quotes

Chicagoland Speedway

EnjoyIllinois.com 225

August 28, 2009

SKINNER AT CHICAGOLAND: Mike Skinner will be making his 195th start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series when the green flag drops for the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 at Chicagoland Speedway Friday evening. Though this event marks the inaugural race at the 1.5-mile track, the Susanville, California, native has raced in three NASCAR Sprint Cup and one NASCAR Nationwide events at the Joliet, Ill. track. Skinner finished in the runner-up spot in the Nationwide event in 2001.

PHILLIPS’ CHASSIS CHOICE: Crew Chief Eric Phillips and the No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator team will utilize chassis No. MDM-105 for Friday evening’s event. This is a brand new truck and will feature PC*MILER Navigator as primary sponsor.

WHAT SKINNER SAYS: “We had the Nationwide race won there back in 2001, but a late caution came out for debris and Jimmie Johnson put four fresh tires on and we wound up second. I’ve run pretty well there in a Cup car, but I’ve had some really bad crashes with right front tires blowing there too. I think it’s pretty cool that we’re taking the Camping World Trucks to Chicagoland this year. Hopefully it will be a great race for the fans.”

THOUGHTS FROM PHILLIPS: “Chicagoland Speedway is very similar to Kansas Speedway and Kentucky Speedway, which is good for us because we’ve run well at those tracks this season. Chicago has a little more banking that Kansas, but is still pretty close setup-wise, so we feel like we’re going in there with a pretty good idea of what we need from our truck. We’re excited about going and looking forward to racing our PC*MILER Navigator Toyota there this weekend.”

TWO CHANCES TO CATCH SKINNER: Fans will have two opportunities this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway to meet Skinner. The 1995 Series Champion will sign autographs at the Toyota Pitpass display located at Champions Park on race day from 12:35-12:55 p.m. CT and then again from 1-2 p.m. CT at a nearby track display.

THE SEASON’S STATS: The No. 5 team has posted six top-five and 10 top-10 finishes in 15 events this season, including one win, which came at Kansas Speedway in April. Skinner holds down the third spot in the NCWTS driver point standings, 94 markers behind second place and 305 points out of first.

WATCH AND LISTEN: Race coverage will be televised on SPEED and heard live on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio Channel 128, beginning at 8:30 p.m. (ET).

SKINNER CAREER NCWTS STATS: Mike Skinner has scored 26 victories in 194 starts in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition and has earned 86 top-five and 124 top-10 finishes since making his first start in Phoenix (and going on to win the event) in 1995.

POINT AND CLICK: Fans can continue to vote for their favorite driver for the Most Popular Driver Award through the end of October. The results of the online balloting will be announced at the NCWTS awards banquet at the end of the season. Visit HYPERLINK www.nascar.com for more details and to cast your vote for Mike.

Tayler Malsam – No. 81 One Eighty Toyota Tundra

Pre-Race Notes and Quotes

Chicagoland Speedway

EnjoyIllinois.com 225

August 28, 2009

MALSAM AT CHICAGO: Tayler Malsam will be making his 18th start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series when the green flag drops for the EnjoyIllinois.com 225 at Chicagoland Speedway Friday evening. Though this is the first time the NCWTS will race on the 1.5-mile track, Malsam has some experience at the Joliet, Ill. venue. Malsam participated in last season’s Chicagoland 200 ARCA Series race at the speedway.

MALSAM’S RIDE: Crew Chief Doug Wolcott and the One Eighty team will unload Randy Moss Motorsports chassis No. 126 for this weekend’s race. This is the team’s most utilized truck as it has been run six times already this year. First run at California Speedway in February, it has also seen track time at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Kansas Speedway, Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Dover (Del.) International Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway. The team has earned two top-10 and five top-15 finishes this season with this truck.

TAYLER’S TAKE ON CHICAGOLAND: “I think it’s great for the fans in the Chicagoland area to have the opportunity to see the trucks in action and going to these bigger tracks in large metropolitan areas is good for the series. A lot these tracks are new to me, so in that sense this is pretty much just a regular weekend. We’ve got a lot of practice time on Thursday and I’ve got a lot of faith in Doug and the guys to bring the best truck possible, so I’m looking forward to a really good weekend.”

WOLCOTT’S WORDS: “NASCAR gives us a test day for any new track that we go to, so that obviously helps us prepare for these tracks that are new to the Camping World Truck Series. That said, Chicagoland Speedway used to be a test bed for the Series, so we’ve actually got a lot of laps around it. In fact, Chicagoland Speedway was where we went for a Toyota and a NASCAR test after the splitters were first introduced to the trucks. We had the chance to spend some time there drafting and seeing how the splitter affected the trucks, so it isn’t completely new to a lot of us.

“Pretty much all the tracks we go to are new to Tayler, so this weekend won’t be much different from any other for him. He has actually raced at Chicagoland before and the good thing about these mile and a half or longer tracks is that unlike the short tracks, it’s not all about the driver. The truck can make up for a lot so that can be an advantage for the crew chief. Tayler has adapted well to everything this year, so this weekend’s event is really just another race for the One Eighty team.”

BATTLING IT OUT FOR ROTY: Malsam lost a little bit of ground in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year points battle after getting caught up in an accident early in last week’s event at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, but his sights are still set on the prize. Malsam remains at the top in the competition, but holds just a one point lead over fellow rookie Johnny Sauter.

TWO CHANCES TO CATCH TAYLER: Fans will have two opportunities this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway to meet Malsam. The Seattle-area native will sign autographs at the Toyota Pitpass display located at Champions Park on race day from 12:35-12:55 p.m. CT and then again from 1-2 p.m. CT at a nearby track display.

WATCH AND LISTEN: Race coverage will be televised on SPEED and heard live on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio Channel 128, beginning at 9 p.m. (ET).

The results of the online balloting will be announced at the NCWTS awards banquet at the end of the season. Visit www.nascar.com for more details and to cast your vote for Tayler.

MIKE SKINNER AND THE NO. 5 EXIDE TEAM SURVIVE ROUGH NIGHT IN BRISTOL TO POST TOP-20 FINISH

BRISTOL, Tenn. (August 20, 2009) – NASCAR events at the famed Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway are always full of unexpected twists and turns, and Wednesday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race was no exception for the No. 5 Exide team. After earning a front row position for the start of the race, 1995 Series Champion Mike Skinner experienced an evening full of one misfortune after another, eventually taking the checkered flag in the 20th position.

The No. 5 Exide Toyota Tundra was the 13th of 39 trucks to qualify Wednesday afternoon. Posting one of the quickest speeds in the first practice session, Skinner took to the track for his two-lap qualifying run and backed that effort up, despite missing the final, rain-shortened practice session with brake issues. The veteran driver ran a speed of 121.945 miles per hour around the .533-mile oval during his qualifying effort, which earned the team a spot on the front row for the start of the event.

Skinner lined up in the second spot for the start of Wednesday evening’s O’Reilly 200 and wasted no time taking the lead, a position he held until lap 31 of the 200-lap race. A lap-35 caution flag enabled crew chief Eric Phillips to call his driver into the pits for four fresh tires and a track bar adjustment in an effort to alleviate the loose handling condition Skinner was experiencing. Following the stop, NASCAR officials determined that the Exide Toyota had exceeded the speed limit exiting pit road, and Skinner was forced to line up for the lap-41 restart at the tail end of the longest line.

From the onset of the night’s action, Skinner had been communicating to his crew that he was still experiencing problems with the brakes on his Tundra, and those issues remained for much of the night. Despite that, Skinner was able to patiently make his way past slower traffic in the mid stages of the race. Additional misfortune struck the team when, while holding down the 11th spot, Skinner found himself with a cut right front tire and was forced to drive down pit road for service. The Randy Moss Motorsports crew quickly changed right side tires and sent its driver back out on the track.

Running two laps in arrears due to the unscheduled pit stop under green flag conditions, Skinner held down 24th place with 50 laps to go. The final pit stop of the night occurred during a caution period on lap 153. Phillips called for four fresh tires during the stop, and Skinner lined up for the ensuing restart in 22nd position.

The veteran driver was able to pick up several positions in the closing laps, and when the checkered flag flew, the Exide Toyota stood in 20th place.

“We’ve just got to regroup after this one,” commented Skinner. “We had a good Exide Toyota today; we just had issues with the brakes all day. It’ll be alright. We’ll just go to Chicago and see what we can do there.”

Though not exactly the finish the team was hoping for, Skinner was able to maintain his third-place position in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver point standings. He now stands 305 points behind series leader Ron Hornaday. The Randy Moss Motorsports team fell one position in the owner points battle and now holds down the fourth spot.

Mike Skinner and the No. 5 Randy Moss Motorsports team will return to action at Chicagoland Speedway on Friday, August 28. The EnjoyIllinois.com 225, the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the speedway, will be broadcast at 9 p.m. (ET) on SPEED TV and on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio.

THE VICTIMS OF AN EARLY ACCIDENT, TAYLER MALSAM AND THE ONE EIGHTY TEAM FINISH 31ST IN BRISTOL

BRISTOL, Tenn. (August 20, 2009) – Bristol Motor Speedway has a reputation for showing no mercy to veterans and rookies alike, and Wednesday’s O’Reilly 200 was no exception for driver Tayler Malsam and the No. 81 One Eighty team. After breaking into the top 25 following a 30th-place qualifying effort, Malsam was the innocent victim in a two-truck accident early in the race. The team was able to finish the event after making extensive repairs and took the checkered flag in the 31st spot.

The No. 81 One Eighty Toyota Tundra was the second of 39 trucks to take to the track for qualifying Wednesday afternoon. Malsam posted a speed of 117.913 miles per hour around the .533-mile track, earning the team 30th place on the starting grid.

Malsam took the green flag for the start of the race and made quick work of slower traffic, breaking into the top 25 early in the event. While the young rookie raced with veteran driver Todd Bodine and worked feverishly to maintain his position on the lead lap, Bodine’s Toyota became loose and clipped the left rear of the One Eighty machine, sending Malsam careening into the inside of the turn two wall.

Malsam was able to ease his battered truck into the garage area and crew chief Doug Wolcott and the rest of the team went to work to assess the damage. Extensive repairs were made to the nose of the machine, including replacing the radiator. The One Eighty crew made the needed repairs quickly and Malsam was able to return to the track, albeit missing much of the front end of the Tundra, on lap 83 of the 200-lap event.

Malsam spent the remainder of the night making laps in an effort to gather the maximum amount of points possible. He took the checkered flag in the 31st position.

“We were pretty loose in qualifying and I think the early draw may have hurt us a bit, but I was pretty confident about the way things would work out for us during the race,” commented Malsam after the event. “I don’t know exactly what happened there with Bodine. I was running the top and I guess he just got loose and got into me. That’s just the way it goes sometimes at a place like Bristol, I guess.

“I’m really proud of how hard Doug and the One Eighty guys worked here today. They made a lot of repairs in a short amount of time and we were at least able to get back out there, make laps and finish the race. Obviously this wasn’t what we were hoping for tonight and I’m sure it will hurt us a bit in the points and the rookie battle, but we’ll put this one behind us and look for better things at Chicagoland.”

Despite the disappointing finish in Bristol, Malsam and his Randy Moss Motorsports team remain in the top 10 in both the owner and driver points’ battles.

Tayler Malsam and the No. 81 Randy Moss Motorsports Toyota Tundra team will return to action at Chicagoland Speedway on Friday, August 28. The EnjoyIllinois.com 225, the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the speedway, will be broadcast at 9 p.m. (ET) on SPEED TV and on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio.

August 19, 2009

SKINNER AT BRISTOL: Mike Skinner will be making his 194th start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series when the green flag drops for the O’Reilly 200 Presented by Valvoline at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway Wednesday evening. The Susanville, California, native has raced in seven NCWTS races on the .533-mile track and has one pole position and one win to his credit. Skinner has posted three top-five and five top-10 finishes on the high-banked, concrete oval and has been running at the end of each of the seven events. Skinner has completed 99 percent of the laps in which he has competed at BMS and has led 478 of them.

PHILLIPS’ CHASSIS CHOICE: Crew Chief Eric Phillips and the Exide team will utilize chassis No. 101 for this week’s race. Skinner qualified in 11th place and drove to a 10th-place finish in that event.

WHAT SKINNER SAYS: “Bristol is one of my favorite tracks. I just love the concrete tracks and I love how aggressive the driving style is at Bristol. I’ve got a win in the trucks there and it’s one of my most precious racing accomplishments. For me, going to Bristol is as special as going to places like Daytona (Fla.) and Indianapolis. The atmosphere and all the seats and the feeling you get when you walk through the gates is amazing, so I’m looking forward to getting there.

“There’s just something about the short tracks that I like and I think that a lot of the reason that we run well there is because I really look forward to racing there. I think that’s half the battle. If you’re not excited and looking forward to racing at Bristol or any other place like that really, chances are you’re not going to have a very good day.”
