This Week’s Tundra… The No. 5 International Trucks/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team and driver Travis Kvapil will race MDM-105 in Thursday’s 150-lap NCWTS race at Kentucky Speedway. This is the same truck that Travis raced to a 10^th-place finish last month at Kansas Speedway, and it was also raced earlier this season at Darlington Raceway.

Three Years Ago… Randy Moss Motorsports made its NASCAR debut at Kentucky Speedway on July 3, 2008. NFL All-Pro wide receiver Randy Moss joined veteran team owner David Dollar, and the re-branded organization has recorded three wins and three poles since its inception. The team formerly known as Morgan-Dollar Motorsports was founded in 1998 and has competed full-time in the series since 1999.

No Strangers to Victory Lane… Randy Moss Motorsports recorded a victory in the 2005 Kentucky NCWTS race with Dennis Setzer winning from the 18th starting position. The victory was the 11th of RMM’s 16 truck series wins.

Watch and Listen… The UNOH 225 from Kentucky Speedway will be broadcast live on SPEED, MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio, channel 90, on Thursday night. SPEED kicks off its pre-race coverage at 7:30 p.m. EDT, and MRN Radio will begin its live broadcast at 7:45 p.m. EDT on Thursday, July 7. Thursday afternoon will also feature a tape-delayed broadcast of qualifying at 6:00 p.m. EDT on SPEED Channel.

“I haven’t raced at Kentucky Speedway since 2007, but I had the opportunity to participate in a Goodyear tire test there last month in the Cup car. The work that Bruton Smith has done to that place since he bought it is amazing. While the race track is the still the same, the facility has been upgraded and it will make for a better experience for the fans. As far as the race track, the track surface has definitely aged since I finished second there in 2007, and it’s got its own personality, developing some bumps along with the aging of the asphalt. The trucks are making a rare Thursday night appearance at a race track, but I expect that the fans will pack the place because it’s the inaugural Sprint Cup race and they’ll want to show their support of all the hard work that it took to get a Cup race there. I’m excited to race in both the Truck race on Thursday and the Cup race on Saturday, and I expect that the extra practice time on Thursday will be a benefit for us with our International Trucks/Monaco RVs Tundra come race time on Thursday night.”

“Our intermediate track program is our strength right now, and if it weren’t for a last-lap incident at Texas we would have posted consecutive top-10 finishes. Kentucky Speedway is not your typical 1.5-mile track, and I don’t consider it a cookie-cutter race track. It doesn’t have as much banking in the corners as the other mile-and-a-half tracks, so you need to set the truck up with a focus on getting into the turns. We’ve spent the past few weeks since the last race at Texas running simulations with this truck on the seven-post shaker, and I expect that we’ll see some additional gains this week at Kentucky.”

This Week’s Tundra… The No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team and driver Travis Kvapil will race MDM-110 in Friday night’s 150-lap NCWTS race at Nashville Superspeedway. MDM-110 is the newest chassis in the RMM stable and made its debut at Darlington last month with Tayler Malsam behind the wheel.
Music City is a milestone start for Randy Moss Motorsports… The Bully Hill Vineyards 200 at Nashville Superspeedway will mark Randy Moss Motorsports’ 300^th consecutive NCWTS race. The streak stems back to the 1999 season opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway where Dollar owned the No. 46 Ford driven by Rob Morgan.
Crew Chief Swap… Dan Stillman will join the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team this weekend as crew chief for Travis Kvapil and the No. 5 team. Stillman has been with Randy Moss Motorsports since last fall, and was most recently the crew chief on the No. 25 Toyota Tundra driven by Tayler Malsam.
Nashville Win… In 2007 Travis Kvapil left Nashville Superspeedway with the coveted guitar trophy designed by NASCAR artist Sam Bass. The Janesville, Wis. native started the 200-mile event in the 11^th position while driving the No. 6 truck for Roush Fenway Racing. After leading 47 laps around the 1.333-mile concrete oval, Kvapil crossed the finish line first with more than a two-second lead over second-place Ron Hornaday, Jr.
Meet Travis... Fans at the track outside Nashville, Tenn., will have the opportunity to meet Travis Kvapil in the hours leading up to the NCWTS race on Friday, April 22. The driver of the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra will join other competitors from the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series to meet fans and sign autographs during a free autograph session. The session will be held in the Expo area at Nashville Superspeedway outside Gate 3 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. CST on Friday, April 22.

It seems as though the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team would not have any luck if it were not for the bad luck that has been following the team since the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway six weeks ago. This weekend the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series made their first stop of the season at Martinsville Speedway, the paperclip-shaped short-track in Southern Virginia, which has challenged drivers in NASCAR’s top divisions for the past six decades. Saturday’s 250-lap race was no exception for the Randy Moss Motorsports organization as they cut a tire and were forced to pit under green to spend most of the afternoon two laps behind the leader. However, the International Truck/Monaco RVs team proved that patience pays off as they fought through the challenges to come back from being two laps down and finished inside the top-20.

In a double-header weekend for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, 35-year-old Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 5 Toyota Tundra, found himself without much down-time during a jam-packed weekend at NASCAR’s oldest short-track. Kvapil worked closely with his crew chief Rick Viers during Friday’s two practice sessions to dial in their truck before qualifying on Saturday morning. After two-and-a-half hours of practice, Kvapil and Viers had finally dialed in the truck to Kvapil’s liking and adjusted it to find speed around the 0.576-mile track. By the time Kvapil went out for qualifying on Saturday morning, he picked up seven-hundreds-of-a-second to post a 20.256-second lap and start the race from the 13^th position.

Throughout the early portion of the 250-lap race Kvapil reported a tight Toyota Tundra and asked the crew to help free up the truck during their first pit stop. As the race progressed, Kvapil noticed that the International Truck/Monaco RVs machine became looser on entry, but the tightness in the center of the corner never went away. The Janesville, Wis. native finally visited pit road during the lap 57 caution period when they made a variety of chassis adjustments and added spring rubbers to help their Toyota Tundra navigate the tight corners.

Kvapil started regaining track position at Martinsville Speedway, but on lap 68 he called into the crew to report a flat left front tire, forcing the driver to pull the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra down pit road under green flag conditions. The skilled crew quickly changed left-side tires and Kvapil returned to the track two laps behind the leader. Just moments later, the caution flag was displayed for a three-truck accident on the frontstretch.

Kvapil spent the next 150 laps methodically working through traffic while battling for the lucky dog award to regain lost track position. He worked closely with Viers and the crew describing the handling of the No. 5 machine to continually adjust and improve their truck. The crew continually discussed what their strategy would be when they returned to the lead lap, hoping to improve their truck and pick up as many positions as time would permit.

The caution flag was displayed for debris on lap 224 giving Kvapil his first free pass and allowing him to regain one of his two laps. The team patiently awaited their chance to return to the lead lap and hoped for another caution flag during the closing 26 laps. The team got their lucky break when the caution was displayed for the 13^th and final time on lap 243, granting Kvapil a second free pass and returning him to the lead lap of competition.

With just four laps remaining at the Virginia track, Kvapil returned to the lead lap and started picking up positions. The 2003 NCWTS Champion moved from 24^th to the 20^th position before the checkered flag waved with 250 laps compete on Saturday afternoon.

“It was a rough day in Martinsville [Speedway] for our International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota,” commented Travis Kvapil following the Kroger 250 at Martinsville Speedway. “I felt like we had a pretty good truck. We started 13^th and were a little too tight in the beginning so we slid back and lost some track position. We got pushed in the outside groove and it was really tight with all the rubber built up there, and we couldn’t make up any ground. We stayed there waiting to get to pit road and loosen our truck up. We cut a left front tire; we aren’t really sure what happened—we didn’t make any contact, so we must have run something over. That happened under green flag conditions and we lost two laps pitting under green, so that really put us behind for the rest of the day. We had the truck driving really great, but we were just two laps down. We ended up getting back on the lead lap, but we didn’t have much time to make up many positions after that. We had a little bit of bad luck, but I’m really happy that we had a fast Toyota today. We’re headed to Nashville [Superspeedway] next and it’s a track where I’ve won before, so I’m really excited for that and to hopefully put this bad luck behind us.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will travel to Music City for the 200-mile race at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday, April 22. Pit Stop in the Music City… Travis Kvapil stopped in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday to promote the upcoming Bully Hill Vineyards 200 at Nashville Superspeedway. The day kicked off with several interviews with area radio and television stations. That afternoon, Kvapil joined NASCAR Nationwide Series regulars Reed Sorenson and Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., to meet fans and give a few lucky guests a ride around the concrete track as the Richard Petty Driving Experience provided free rides to attending season ticket holders. Country music stars Bucky Covington and Carter’s Chord also attended the event, drawing media from the music industry.

“Martinsville [Speedway] is one of my favorite tracks that we go to. It just fits my driving style—I’ve always run really well there, and I’ve had some really competitive trucks there over the years. Martinsville [Speedway] is also a very special track for me because it’s where I made my first [NASCAR Sprint] Cup Series start. I’ve been close to winning in a truck at Martinsville [Speedway] a few times, but we just haven’t quite been able to get it done. The track ‘too tough to tame’ proved to be the one that Seattle, Wash. native Tayler Malsam conquered in qualifying to kick off his 2011 season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. After posting solid lap times in both practice sessions and qualifying into the race, Malsam raced inside the top-10 before a motor failure put an early end to his night at Darlington Raceway.

With a track that has historically taunted drivers with its tough turns and handling challenges, Malsam worked closely with the One Eighty team and crew chief Dan Stillman to dial in the No. 25 Toyota Tundra before the group made their qualifying attempt. In the opening practice session at the 1.366-mile oval, Malsam recorded a 29.323-second lap ranking him 22^nd on the board, and beating out five competitors who also needed to qualify on time. In the second session, Malsam picked up four-tenths-of-a-second to be ranked 21^st.

Entering qualifying, the One Eighty team knew that making the race could be close; they had to beat three competitors to make the 36-truck field. Malsam had outrun six of his competitors during the two practice sessions, placing him 32^nd of the 39 trucks to take time at the “Lady in Black.” Malsam posted a 29.238-second lap securing himself a place in the field for the race later that night.

Saturday night’s Too Tough to Tame 200 marked Malsam’s debut at Darlington Raceway. The young driver tested at the facility a few years ago shortly after it was repaved, but had not been back to the challenging track known as the “Lady in Black,” in over three years. The Seattle, Wash. native started the race from the back of the field and took off at the green flag to start picking up positions. By lap 10, Malsam had picked up 14 positions to be scored in 22^nd and continued his steady charge to the front.

When the caution flag came out on lap 15, Malsam seized the opportunity to discuss the handling of the No. 25 One Eighty Toyota Tundra with his crew. The truck was aero-tight and loose off the corners, but Malsam said that neither condition was a big concern and that he was overall pleased with his truck.

As the race progressed, the driver learned different lines around the South Carolina track and used the time to further diagnose the handling of his machine. With the help of his spotter, Malsam learned the preferred line to travel through turns one and two and was very pleased with his truck on that end of the race track. However, Darlington Raceway has long-since been known as the track “too tough to tame,” and has challenged drivers for decades with its vastly different corners. As expected, after having a truck that handled so smoothly through turns one and two, Malsam struggled to get back on the throttle exiting turns three and four.

On lap 98, Malsam dodged several competitors spinning across the narrow front stretch in an accident bad enough to bring out a seven-minute red flag period. The 22-year-old used the downtime to talk with his crew and start drafting a game plan for the closing laps at Darlington Raceway. Malsam reported that his truck felt the best it had felt all night asked for no changes during their next pit stop.

Malsam prepared to restart the race on lap 102 in the 13^th position and looked to race his way inside the top-10 before the field completed their scheduled 147 laps at Darlington Raceway. However, just after the restart Malsam felt his engine let go entering turn three and made the hard left-hand turn into the infield and back toward the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series garage. Unable to continue, Malsam was credited with a 29^th-place finish.

“We did really good with the One Eighty Toyota Tundra today,” commented Tayler Malsam after climbing out of his truck. “The guys were really patient all day during practice and qualifying; we did a great job of listening to each other and communicating and making the changes that we needed to the truck. I felt like I was really starting to get the hang of getting around the track during the race. We were just keeping pace and trying to avoid the wrecks, but the motor let go with just over 40 laps left. It’s unfortunate, but we’ll go get ‘em in Martinsville.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will return to Martinsville Speedway on Saturday, April 2. Darlington Raceway – Too Tough To Tame 200

Darlington Raceway is one of Travis Kvapil’s favorite tracks and one that had been marked on his calendar since he decided to race in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs team recognized the 1.366-mile speedway in South Carolina as an opportunity to turn their season around with a solid finish, and maybe even finish off the night with a trip to victory lane. However, the “Lady in Black” struck again and left Kvapil battling back from a lap one accident to cross the finish line in the 17^th position.

Known as the track “Too Tough to Tame,” Darlington Raceway reminded the International Truck/Monaco RVs crew how it earned its nickname as Travis Kvapil was collected in a multi-car accident entering turn one on just the first lap of the 200.8-mile event. Several drivers stacked up as they drove two-wide into the first turn on one of NASCAR’s narrowest tracks. Another competitor made contact with the left rear fender of Kvapil’s Toyota Tundra turning the 35-year-old sideways on the track. With only minor fender damage, Kvapil came down pit road to allow the International Truck/Monaco RVs crew the opportunity to work on the damage and made a second stop for four fresh tires.

Once Kvapil logged a few laps and fully evaluated the handling of his Toyota Tundra, he called into the crew to report a loose truck and asked for the No. 5 machine to be tightened up during his next stop on pit road.

Changing track conditions and vast differences between the handling of turns one and two, and turns three and four, make the “Lady in Black” a traditionally tough track to conquer, and one that challenged the International Truck/Monaco RVs crew throughout the night. Kvapil and the No. 5 team spent a majority of the evening working to adjust and improve the handling of their Toyota Tundra making a series of trackbar and air pressure adjustments.

By lap 60, the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra crew had Kvapil racing solidly inside the top-15 and running 10^th by lap 100.

During the closing laps at Darlington Raceway, the Janesville, Wis. native struggled to keep up with the track—a loose Toyota Tundra in turns one and two, and a tight truck in turns three and four left the team talking about more changes for their remaining pit stops. The team struggled to find solutions that would effectively address one set of handling woes without magnifying the challenges on the opposite end of the track. Unable to dial their machine in exactly as Kvapil needed it, the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team crossed the finish line in the 17^th position.

“Darlington is one of my favorite tracks and one that I was really looking forward to coming into it,” commented Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra following the race at Darlington Raceway. “I was super excited to come here and really expecting a great weekend, but we were just off a little bit on our handling all weekend. We never could get the truck to do exactly what we wanted it to do. We got close a few times, but it’s just unfortunate. We have expectations to run in the top-10 and I’m just disappointed for everyone on the Randy Moss Motorsports team; they give us great equipment and there are a lot of great guys here. We just need to keep working on it. For Ricky Viers and me, it is our first time working together, so it may take us a little bit to land on the set-ups that we need. We’ll keep working on it and we’ll have a great run at Martinsville—it’s another one of my favorite tracks.”

This Week’s Tundra… Tayler Malsam will compete with chassis MDM-110 at Darlington Raceway. MDM-110 is a brand new chassis that was built especially for Darlington Raceway. The laps during the opening practice session on Saturday morning will be the first laps completed by MDM-110 on a track.
First Timer…This weekend will mark Tayler Malsam’s first race at the “Lady in Black.” The Seattle, Wash. native tested at the 1.366-mile oval in 2008 as a development driver for Bill Davis Racing. Malsam, then 19, logged laps around the difficult South Carolina track while behind the wheel of a Toyota Tundra and hopes to benefit from that experience during the race on Saturday evening.

After a flat tire sent him into the outside wall and set off the “big one” at Daytona International Speedway, Travis Kvapil and the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team had something to prove this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. The group was looking forward to bouncing back with a strong run in the Lucas Oil 150 at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday evening and making up ground in the championship point race.

A one-day show for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and driving duties in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, made for a very busy day for Travis Kvapil at the one-mile oval in the Arizona desert. The Janesville, Wis. native kicked off the day with a two-hour practice session for the NCWTS, where the International Truck/Monaco RVs team dialed in their Toyota Tundra. With Kvapil happy with the handling of his truck, the team made a few more minor adjustments before qualifying later that afternoon.

Kvapil went out 17^th of the 41 competitors to make a qualifying attempt at the one-mile track outside Phoenix, Ariz. After taking the green flag, Kvapil sailed down into turns one and two and quickly realized that his truck was a lot freer than it had been during the practice session earlier that day. Coming off the corner in turn two, the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra hooked to the left and into a spin, but luckily the former champion was able to hold the truck low and keep it off the wall. The spin resulted in flat-spotted tires, forcing the team to put on four fresh Goodyear Eagles and sending them to the back of the field to begin the 150-mile event at Phoenix International Raceway.

Within the opening 20 laps, Kvapil had picked up 10 spots and moved into the 26^th-position; however, with the leader setting a blistering pace, Kvapil was lapped just four circuits later. Despite being a little free, Kvapil held on and raced for the lucky dog position. By lap 59, Kvapil was racing Ricky Carmichael for the “lucky dog” position when they made hard contact causing damage to the left side of Kvapil’s No. 5 machine. As a result, the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra cut the left rear tire sending Kvapil down pit road several times under caution for repairs.

Just over 40 laps after his initial flat tire, Kvapil was sent hard into the wall in the middle of turns three and four as the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra suffered a flat right front tire. The damage was significant enough to send Kvapil immediately to the garage where the team assessed the situation and realized that their truck was damaged too severely to return to the track. By the time the rest of the field took the checkered flag, Kvapil was scored in the 36^th position.

“That’s two weeks in a row that we’ve had some really horrible luck at the race track,” commented Travis Kvapil following the race. “I don’t know what we have to do to turn our luck around, but we had a really fast International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra. We put ourselves in a deficit qualifying toward the back, and in doing so we got bounced around with some other competitors causing us to have a flat tire. We rebounded from the back and just blew a tire out again like we did last week at Daytona. Nothing we could do about it; we must have just run something over. It’s just bad luck, but we’ll shake it. We go to Darlington next, which is probably my favorite track on the circuit, so we’ll go there and get a victory.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will return to Darlington Raceway on Saturday, March 12. The Too Tough To Tame 200 will be broadcast on SPEED Channel, Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio and MRN Radio beginning at 5:00 p.m. EST. Kvapil was sent into the outside retaining wall and eventually to the garage after sustaining race-ending damage. The No. 5 team was credited with a 29^th-place finish.

Travis Kvapil made his debut with Randy Moss Motorsports in the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona International Speedway on Friday night. The driver of the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra ran as high as the third position and was scored inside the top-10 when the No. 5 machine cut a left rear tire entering turn one and sent Kvapil up the track and in to the top line of traffic.

After rain pushed back on-track activities for most of the day Wednesday, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) finally got in an abbreviated two-and-a-half-hour practice session under the lights late Wednesday evening. The No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs team methodically worked through their planned adjustment strategy to measure each change’s effect on the handling of their Toyota Tundra. After posting the 18^thquickest time of the day, Kvapil and the team knew they had some work to do before final practice.

The NCWTS drivers participated in a 50-minute final practice session on Thursday afternoon. Kvapil partnered with teammate Tayler Malsam throughout most of the session to gain speed in the draft and see how his truck would handle during the actual race. The No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra was ranked second at the conclusion of the session after posting a 47.116-second lap and topping 191 mph.

Kvapil lined up in the 24^th position to start Friday’s 250-mile event and kick off the 2011 season. The former NCWTS champion knew that his truck ran well in the draft and picked up 12 positions in the opening two laps. The team planned their first green-flag stop on lap 30, and Kvapil called into the International Truck/Monaco RVs crew asking for help getting his Tundra to turn better on exit. With two fresh Goodyear Eagles, a chassis adjustment and a tank full of Sunoco fuel, the team sent Kvapil back to the track.

The driver of the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra visited pit road on three other occasions taking fuel each time and making adjustments to help the veteran driver navigate the turns. By lap 70, Kvapil crossed the line in the fourth position and raced as high as third-place before deciding to fall back and log laps.

On lap 74, the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra was lined up in the sixth position in the low groove of the race track. Just past the start/finish line Kvapil felt his truck shake and soon felt tread hitting the inside. The Janesville, Wis. native waved off his competitors and hoped to pull out of line, but just as they entered turn one, the left rear tire went flat and the No. 5 machine was sent spinning toward the outside retaining wall. With nowhere else to go, Kvapil collected several competitors in the outside line putting an early end to the team’s evening at Daytona International Speedway.

“I’m just really disappointed,” commented Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra, following the lap 74 incident at Daytona International Speedway. “Everybody at Randy Moss Motorsports built me a really fast truck and it was just a track position game. We were just kind of taking our time being patient. The left rear tire just went flat. I felt it just past the start finish line. It was starting to shake and vibrate. I stuck my hand out the window to wave those guys off behind me and before I knew it the thing just spun around. It’s just disappointing. I’ve come close to winning here a few times. We’ve got great sponsors with International Trucks and Monaco RVs. I just wanted to have a good showing for those guys, but we’ll be back strong at Phoenix [International Raceway].”

Veteran Crew Chief Rick Viers Will Lead the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Team

STATESVILLE, N.C. (January 28, 2011) – Travis Kvapil will join Randy Moss Motorsports to race for his second NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship during the 2011 season. The Janesville, Wis., native will pilot the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra with veteran crew chief Rick Viers leading the team.

Kvapil, the 2003 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion, has been a dominant force when racing in the truck series since his 2001 debut. In 132 starts, the 34-year-old has collected nine wins, four poles and led nearly 900 laps; all while maintaining an average start of 9.4 and an average finish of 9.8. In his five full seasons of NCWTS
competition, the Wisconsin native has never finished outside of the top-10 in the championship point standings.

(January 18, 2011) – After many discussions and much thought, Randy Moss Motorsports and Mike Skinner have decided to part ways for the 2011 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season. The duo joined forces just weeks before the 2009 opener at Daytona International Speedway to enjoy a ‘Cinderella’ story of a season. Together, the team achieved three wins, three pole positions and finished third in the championship standings.

“I would like to thank Mike Skinner for a lot of great races and two competitive seasons in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series,” commented David Dollar, co-owner of Randy Moss Motorsports. “We were able to learn a lot with a veteran of Mike’s caliber behind the wheel and enjoyed a lot of success throughout our time together.”

For the final time in the 2010 season, Tayler Malsam took the green flag at Homestead-Miami Speedway in a Randy Moss Motorsports prepared Toyota Tundra. The 21-year-old sported a brand new black, gray and gold paint scheme with logos from Iron Horse Jeans—a California-based company that has supported Malsam in both the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series throughout the 2010 season. Despite partnering with Tayler in the past, it was the debut of Iron Horse Jeans’ partnership with Randy Moss Motorsports.

Malsam was 14^th quick in both the first and final practice session at the Southern Florida mile-and-a-half. The effort put him 22^nd in the qualifying line where he laid down a 32.149-second lap to roll off 11^th for 134 laps in the 2010 NCWTS season finale.

The No. 25 Iron Horse Jeans machine dropped three spots on the opening lap as Malsam struggled with the handling on his Toyota Tundra. The team utilized the opening caution on lap 31 to remove the rubber from the right rear spring that they had added earlier in the day. After a slight air pressure adjustment, four fresh Goodyear Eagles and Sunoco fuel, Malsam was back on the track. The stop relegated him to the 22^nd position as the team utilized precious seconds removing the rubber.

During the 200-mile event, Malsam struggled with racing in dirty air, but did his best to diagnose the truck’s handling as the Iron Horse Jeans team made a variety of changes to their Toyota Tundra throughout the evening. During the lap 76 caution period, Malsam came down pit road for four tires and fuel. The team made an air pressure adjustment to the Iron Horse Jeans Toyota Tundra and got Malsam’s machine dialed in exactly how he needed it.

Malsam made his final stop of the night on lap 105 assuring the team that the No. 25 machine could make it the distance on fuel. Crew chief Dan Stillman called for no changes to their Toyota Tundra, but a four-tire stop pushed the Iron Horse Jeans team back in the running order as several competitors took just two Goodyear Eagles.

The Sammamish, Wash., native restarted the race in the 19^th position and proceeded to pick up nine positions during the closing 20 laps. Malsam crossed the finish line in the 10^th position at Homestead Miami Speedway, marking his best finish and only top-10 result of the 2010 NCWTS season.

“The Iron Horse Jeans team struggled a bit with our Toyota Tundra early in the race tonight, but we kept working and improving it until we were able to be competitive,” commented Malsam following the race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. “My guys did a great job preparing the truck, working on it throughout practice, and adjusting on it during the race. It was great to get a top-10 finish and it will help build momentum for us going into the 2011 season. We have a lot of work to do over the off-season, but I think we will be ready to win races and contend for the championship by the time we get to Daytona [International Speedway] in February.”

The checkered flag at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday night marked not only the end of a night of racing, but also the conclusion of the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Mike Skinner brought home his No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra in the eighth position in arguably one of the most challenging seasons of his 24-year NASCAR career. The result marked Skinner’s 13^th top-10 finish of the season and 144^th top-10 result in his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career.

Skinner ran 11^th during the opening practice session at the mile-and-a-half track in Southern Florida. When rain postponed the final practice session the 53-year-old from Susanville, Calif., was back in his truck early the next day for the final practice session. A 32.689-second lap was again good enough for the 11^th position, and left Skinner to line up 24^th of the 38 trucks in the qualifying line. With a few minor adjustments to the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra, Skinner was able to run a 32.124-second lap to pick up a half-second and roll off 10^th for the 200-mile race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Skinner struggled with the International Truck/Monaco RVs machine from the green flag to get the tight-handling machine to run the top of the racetrack. Despite his difficultly, the NCWTS veteran was able to pick up a couple positions before the caution flag was displayed to the field on lap 31. As the field was slowed, Skinner brought the No. 5 machine to the attention of his crew. A precise four-tire pit stop got Skinner off pit road in the fourth position with a trackbar adjustment to help the handling on his Toyota Tundra.

By lap 74 Skinner was back on pit road as his right front tire delaminated on the race track. Luckily, Skinner immediately felt the change and brought the No. 5 machine down pit road under green for four fresh tires and fuel. As the caution flag was displayed just two laps later, Skinner stayed out to benefit from the “wave around” rule as the rest of the lead-lap competitors came down pit road. He restarted the race in the 23^rd position with 54 laps remaining.

Skinner used the remaining laps to improve the handling of the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra and to race through the field. Despite restarting the race in the 17^th place on lap 114, he moved into the top-10 within just five laps. Skinner picked up another two positions en route to an eighth-place finish after 134 laps at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

“There has been many times throughout the year that we finished eighth and I’ve just had a long face and been really upset about it,” commented Mike Skinner following the race. “But tonight, our pit crew did a phenomenal job once again; our truck ran phenomenal; I think we were a contender tonight. I think we were definitely a top-five truck. I’m really proud of my guys. I’m thankful for International Trucks, Monaco RVs, Exide, PC*MILER Navigator, Toyota—everybody that has helped us all year. I just can’t say enough for these guys. If we start out that competitive next year, we won’t be eighth in points at this time; we’re going to have a few victories and will hopefully contend for the championship.”

Mike Skinner and the International Truck/Monaco RVs team brought home their 12^th top-10 finish of the 2010 season at Phoenix International Raceway on Friday night. The 1995 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion has two wins at the short track and was looking for another strong run in Friday night’s event. On their final stop of the night, the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team took a big swing at their truck to regain Skinner’s foothold within the top-10 and ultimately brought home a sixth-place finish.

After getting continually quicker throughout the practice sessions at Phoenix International Raceway, Skinner recorded a 27.397-second qualifying lap to roll off the grid in the eighth position for 150 miles of racing action in the Arizona desert.

Early in the event, the driver of the No. 5 called into his crew to update them on the handling of their truck. The veteran described a loose race truck that was getting worse as the tires built up to their desired pressures. As the event progressed, the driver struggled with a lack of front and rear grip as the truck bounced around the surface of the one-mile oval.

By the fourth caution period on lap 90, Skinner had made it past the halfway point in the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra. The driver of the No. 5 machine maintained his 10^th-place position in the running order despite continuing to struggle with the handling of his truck. As a result, the Randy Moss Motorsports crew took a big swing at their Toyota Tundra with a major trackbar adjustment on their final stop of the 150-mile race in Phoenix, Ariz.

The adjustments moved Skinner’s Toyota Tundra in the right direction allowing him to speed up his lap times and pick up positions around the fast short track throughout the closing laps. After 150 miles at Phoenix International Raceway, the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra crossed the finish line in the sixth position.

“We got out of here with another top-10 finish in Phoenix,” commented Mike Skinner following the Lucas Oil 150. “I was really happy that the guys were able to adjust on the truck throughout the race, but our truck bounced really badly all night and we struggled with that. The guys made a big, big swing at it and got about halfway to where it needed to be. If we could have made one more pit stop, I feel like we could have contended for at least a third-place finish if not the win. It was great to have International Truck and Monaco RVs on my Toyota Tundra tonight. We had EXIDE Batteries here on Tayler’s truck; and we’re just grateful for all these people including PC*MILER and Toyota who have supported our program every step of the way. I’m really proud of all my guys; everyone has been working really hard and it’s only a matter of time before you see us back contending for the win week after week.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race into Homestead, Fla., for the 2010 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday, November 19. The Ford 200 will be broadcast live on SPEED, MRN Radio and Sirius XM Channel 128 beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST. Qualifying for the 200-mile event will take place just hours before the scheduled green flag and will appear on SPEED at 5:00 p.m. EST.

The No. 25 Randy Moss Motorsports team returned to the track with the EXIDE colors decorating their Toyota Tundra this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. With Tayler Malsam behind the wheel, the team worked through damage from mid-race contact to come home with a top-20 finish at the one-mile oval in the Arizona desert.

After struggling with a tight truck during both practice sessions and qualifying, the 21-year-old from the Pacific Northwest recorded a 28.205-second lap to start the 150-mile race in the 23^rd position.

Throughout the first three runs of the evening, Malsam continued to struggle with a tight race truck. The No. 25 EXIDE crew made a series of adjustments to help the handling of their Toyota Tundra and Malsam started to climb through the field.

By lap 60, Malsam had finally gained a foothold inside the top-20 and was about to test the adjustments that the Randy Moss Motorsports crew had made to the EXIDE Tundra during the latest pit stop. While running 17^th on lap 62, Malsam was caught up in a multi-truck pile-up when two other competitors made contact in turn two.

The EXIDE Toyota Tundra crew worked quickly gathering all of the parts and pieces they needed for the repair, and sent the No. 25 machine back to the track on the lead lap of competition. After three stops assessing and repairing the damage to his Toyota Tundra the Sammamish, Wash., native returned to green-flag competition.

With just over 50 laps to go, Malsam restarted the race on older tires than the rest of the field, and struggled to keep up with the leaders before eventually being lapped. However, the fifth and final caution of the day on lap 115 gave the sophomore driver the opportunity to collect the “Lucky Dog” award, return to the lead lap of competition and benefit from a better opportunity to make up lost ground on fresh tires.

Following 150 grueling miles at Phoenix International Raceway, Malsam crossed the finish line in the 18^th position.

“I’m disappointed with how tonight turned out,” commented Tayler Malsam after the race. “I was hoping that we’d put on a great show for EXIDE, but just as we got our truck dialed in closer to where we needed it, we got caught up in the accident and got damage to the nose of our truck. The guys never gave up and we were able to make it back on the lead lap and race for position, so that was a good thing. We have a great piece for the race at Homestead [Miami Speedway]; I’m really looking forward to getting back on track there.”

Mike Skinner and the No. 5 Randy Moss Motorsports Toyota Tundra featured a special paint scheme this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway. The team debuted a variation of the International Truck/EXIDE scheme they used at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last month, but this scheme featured EXIDE on the hood with International Truck and Monaco RVs both featured on the quarter panels of Skinner’s Toyota Tundra. It was the final appearance of the 2010 season for the paint scheme which features all of Skinner’s primary partners.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series garage was a busy place on Thursday as the field underwent two separate practice sessions and qualifying all within an eight-hour timeframe. In the opening session, Skinner’s 30.227-second lap ranked him fourth on the leader board. The EXIDE/International Truck/Monaco RVs crew spent the second practice adjusting Skinner’s truck to where it would be able to race well on Friday night. Later that evening, Skinner went out 31^st of the 37 trucks to make a qualifying attempt at Texas Motor Speedway. With an average speed of 176.240 mph, Skinner rolled off 24^th on Friday night.

The Susanville, Calif., native began his charge to the front immediately after the green-flag was displayed to the 36-truck field. By lap 10 he was scored in the 14^th position, and by lap 20 he had already worked his way into the top-10.

Throughout the evening at Texas Motor Speedway, Skinner called into his crew reporting that the No. 5 EXIDE/International Truck/Monaco RVs machine had become a little free as the race went on and track cooled down. The crew continually made changes to tighten up Skinner’s Toyota Tundra, but the race track continued to become looser and looser.

The 1995 NCWTS’ Champion continued to be a top-10 mainstay for the majority of the evening, and after 147 laps at Texas Motor Speedway, he crossed the finish line in the eighth position.

“We had a pretty fast truck tonight,” said Mike Skinner, driver of the No. 5 EXIDE/International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra following the race at Texas Motor Speedway. “We struggled a little bit in the pits early in the race when we had trouble getting fuel into our Toyota Tundra, but you’ll have that even with the best pit crew in the business. I appreciate all of the hard work that my guys put into the truck and practicing pit stops every day. During the first run we came from 24^th to eighth under green. I felt like we had a truck that could contend tonight, but as the race went on it just ran loose all night.

“It was so cool to see all of our partners together—EXIDE on the hood, International on the left side, Monaco on the right side, PC*MILER—it was kind of a group effort and I really appreciate everybody’s help and all of their support this season. Now it’s on to Phoenix.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will travel to Phoenix International Raceway on Friday, November 12. The Lucas Oil 150 will be broadcast on SPEED Channel, Sirius XM Satellite Radio and MRN Radio beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST. Fans can also watch qualifying on SPEED Channel at 4:30 p.m. EST on Friday afternoon. Two practice sessions will take place on Thursday but will not be televised.

Tayler Malsam rejoined Randy Moss Motorsports this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway for his second race of the 2010 season in the No. 25 Toyota Tundra. The Pacific Northwest native raced with hometown support of Coinstar in a newly designed green, black and white paint scheme, marking the Seattle, Wash., company’s first outing with Randy Moss Motorsports.

Malsam started the WinStar World Casino 350K in the 20^th position, but showed the strength of his Toyota Tundra as he picked up 10 positions in the opening lap around the mile-and-a-half track. The sophomore driver called into the crew around lap 15 to report that the No. 25 Coinstar/H-E-B Toyota Tundra was loose all the way around the track and the crew promised to tighten up his machine during their opening pit stop.

After just 33 laps of racing, the 21-year-old from Sammamish, Wash., was headed down pit road for an unexpected stop when the right rear tire began delaminating. Malsam knew something was wrong when the Coinstar/H-E-B Toyota Tundra became “stupid loose” and after careful examination by the Randy Moss Motorsports crew and Goodyear tire experts it was obvious that Malsam made the right move coming down pit road.

Lap 53 brought another round of challenges for the young driver when the No. 77 spun ahead of Malsam exiting turn two. The defending series champion Ron Hornaday Jr. checked up to avoid the crash, but Malsam did not see the incident until he had no time or room to avoid it. He tried to go high around Hornaday, but did not have enough room to make the move and instead brushed the outside wall with the right side of his Toyota Tundra and collected the veteran driver’s truck. Displeased with the situation, Hornaday turned Malsam’s truck around under caution on the backstretch.

Malsam brought the No. 25 Coinstar/H-E-B Toyota Tundra down pit road three times during the ensuing caution period allowing the crew to make a series of repairs and keep their position on the lead lap of competition. After the green-flag fell, Malsam continued to pick up positions and moved as high as the sixth position during a round of green-flag pit stops. Before the cycle was complete, Malsam brushed the truck of another competitor dislodging his bumper cover and resulting in a black flag for the No. 25 machine. Malsam slowed his machine to pit road speed and came in for repairs relegating him to the 22^nd position three laps behind the leader with about 30 laps remaining in the race.

Malsam managed to make up one more position with the No. 25 Coinstar/H-E-B Toyota Tundra to be scored 21^st at Texas Motor Speedway when the checkered flag fell.

“Our finish tonight was really a shame because the truck was hauling even though it was too tight all weekend,” said Malsam following the action at Texas Motor Speedway. “We worked on the truck when we could, but after everything that happened throughout the night, it was messed up pretty bad. Despite it all, I think we could’ve gotten close to a top-10 finish if it wasn’t for [the contact that resulted in a black flag for Malsam’s dislodged bumper cover].”

This particular chassis was last raced at Las Vegas Motor Speedway where the No. 5 EXIDE/International Truck/Monaco RVs team drove to a 24^th-place finish after being caught up in an accident with a truck that was capable of competing inside the top-five. Skinner also utilized this Toyota Tundra earlier this season when he finished in the fourth position.

· Skinner Starts Up Front... The driver of the No. 5 Exide/International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra has five poles at Texas Motor Speedway, and is the only active NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competitive to have won multiple poles at the grueling speedway.

“Texas is an extremely challenging track. I’ve always run well there, but haven’t been able to make it to victory lane yet. We recorded our best finish of the season there in June with the EXIDE/International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team, and we hope to improve on that this weekend. Over the last few races, all of our trucks have been extremely competitive—we’ve been able to lead laps and run up front and I’m sure this weekend will not be any different. I think we have the truck exactly where I need it to run a solid race on Friday night, and if we can get a little luck on our side I think you’ll see us racing for the win.”

Mike Skinner and the No. 5 EXIDE Toyota Tundra team came home in the 15^th position after being involved in a multi-truck pileup in the closing laps at Talladega Superspeedway. Prior to the incident, the 1995 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion spent the majority of the afternoon racing inside the top-10 and was in position to score his best finish of the year.

In the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series second superspeedway race of the 2010 season, Skinner showed the strength of his Toyota Tundra during the weekend’s two-hour practice when the No. 5 EXIDE machine posted a 49.557-second lap at a top speed of 193.232 mph to record the fastest lap of the morning. The time was posted while Skinner was drafting with other NCWTS competitors, proving that his truck would be competitive during the 250-mile race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Skinner dropped to the rear of the field for the start of the Mountain Dew 250 for making an adjustment after impound, but raced halfway through the field within the opening six laps. By lap 17, the No. 5 EXIDE Toyota Tundra broke into the top-10 and Skinner continued his charge to the front.

The lap 24 caution period allowed Skinner to visit pit road for four tires and fuel. A fast stop by the EXIDE crew moved the No. 5 EXIDE Toyota Tundra up four positions to restart the race in third place. Just after the restart Skinner moved into the second position, but when he pulled high on the backstretch his drafting help stayed low, moving him back several positions.

When the yellow flag was displayed just laps after making a green flag stop, Skinner and the EXIDE Toyota Tundra team opted to stay on track during the lap 61 caution. As a result, he inherited the lead to gain five bonus points. The No. 5 EXIDE Toyota Tundra visited pit lane for the final time on lap 76. At an estimated two laps short, the team decided to give Skinner’s Tundra a little extra Sunoco fuel to ensure that they would be able to make it the distance.

On lap 91, Skinner’s strategy was turned upside down as the EXIDE machine was collected in a multi-truck pile-up while running inside the top-10. After having contact from behind, the right front fender of Skinner’s Toyota Tundra was plowed by another competitor forcing him down pit road for repairs with just three laps remaining. The EXIDE team worked on the damage and serviced the car with four fresh tires before sending Skinner out to fend for himself on the final laps. After 95 laps at Alabama superspeedway, Skinner was credited with a 15^th-place result.

“We had a really good Exide Toyota Tundra today,” commented Mike Skinner just minutes after the race. “We came through the field, led the race for a little bit and it looked like we were going to have a top-three finish or maybe even win the race. I think we were better all day than the truck that won the race. Unfortunately, there was big accident there at the end and we got caught up in it. I just hate it for all of our sponsors, but hopefully they got a good amount of television time today. I’d like to thank EXIDE Batteries for coming on board today, International Trucks, Monaco RVs, PC*MILER Navigator, Toyota and all of our engine people—our engine ran spectacular all day.”

This Week’s Tundra… Mike Skinner and the No. 5 Exide Toyota Tundra team will compete in RMM-045 this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Randy Moss Motorsports has not utilized this particular chassis in 2010. In fact, its last showing was at Talladega Superspeedway last season where Skinner was racing in the fifth position when he was involved in an on-track incident on lap 91 eliminating the team’s chance of victory.
Battery Power… Exide Batteries will return to the hood of the No. 5 Randy Moss Motorsports Toyota Tundra this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. This is the Georgia-based company’s second consecutive year partnering with the No. 5 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team.
Past Performances at Talladega Superspeedway… Skinner is one of just eight drivers to race in all four NCWTS races at Talladega Superspeedway. At a track known for its unpredictable finishes and wildcard characteristics, Skinner has consistently been able to run up-front and finish races at the 2.66-mile track, completing 99.5% of all laps attempted.
Competition Heats Up… Before the competition heats up on the track, Skinner will take on several of his competitors on the golf course at the Waltrip Brothers’ Charity Championship. The first annual competition will be held October 27-28 at the Gaylord Springs Golf Links in Nashville, Tenn. All funds raised will benefit Motor Racing Outreach (MRO) and The National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Mike Skinner and the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra finished sixth on Saturday afternoon at Martinsville Speedway. The three-time Martinsville Speedway winner was fast in practice and raced inside the top-10 throughout the majority of the 200-lap event before bringing home his 10^th top-10 finish of the 2010 season.

On Friday afternoon, 37 trucks made laps around Martinsville Speedway in two separate practice sessions. During the opening session, Skinner completed 47 laps around the 0.526-mile paperclip-shaped track recording a fast lap of 20.003-seconds to be ranked sixth on the leader board. During final practice, the No. 5 team worked to perfect the handling of the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra allowing Skinner to post a 19-second lap. At 19.718-seconds, Skinner finished practice in second-place—one one-thousandth slower than the fastest competitor.

In qualifying, the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra handled great through the center of the corner, but lost the forward bite Skinner needed to return to the gas and gain speed down the straightaway. As a result, Skinner posted a 19.842-second lap to start 10^th on the grid.

When the green flag fell to kick off the Kroger 200, Skinner struggled early with forward bite. The driver of the No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra visited pit road during the lap 41 caution period for an air pressure adjustment, four fresh Goodyear Eagles and fuel.

An early stop for Skinner and the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team meant that the group was able to gain track positions when the leaders visited pit road on a one-stop race strategy. Several of the front-runners came down pit road during the lap 92 caution period, allowing Skinner to restart the race in the third position with just over 100 laps to go.

Skinner made one more stop with just over 50 laps remaining at the Virginia short-track. The No. 5 machine needed another chassis adjustment along with fresh tires and fuel to race to the finish. Skinner returned to the track in the 17^th position to travel through the field one last time.

The final laps of the Kroger 200 were marred with on-track incidents and caution flags. With the whole field on cool tires, Skinner was never able to benefit from the newer Goodyear Eagles on the International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra and crossed the finish line in sixth-place.

“It was a crazy day as usual at Martinsville [Speedway],” commented Skinner following the race. “Stacy [Johnson, crew chief] and the International Truck/Monaco RVs team did a great job designing a strategy that put us on fresher tires than the rest of the field with about 50 to go. We had a really fast truck at that point, but the cautions just kept coming and coming which equaled out everybody’s tires. We ended up with a sixth-place finish for our International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra. I really think we had a better truck than that, but that’s Martinsville. A lot of teams didn’t finish and we did, so it was a good day.”

Next week the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will travel to Talladega Superspeedway for the Mountain Dew 250. This Week’s Tundra… The No. 5 International Truck/Monaco RVs Toyota Tundra team and driver Mike Skinner will race MDM-106 in Saturday’s 200-lap NCWTS event at Martinsville Speedway. Earlier this season, Skinner was behind the wheel of MDM-106 running fourth at Martinsville Speedway when contact with another competitor eliminated his chance of victory. More recently, the International Truck/Monaco RVs team competed with MDM-106 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and finished in the 13^th position.
Success at Martinsville Speedway… Skinner has visited victory lane three times at Martinsville Speedway tying him with Dennis Setzer as the winningest NCWTS driver at the Virginia short track. Known for starting up front, Skinner’s three poles rank him second on the all-time list for NCWTS poles at Martinsville Speedway. The 53-year-old veteran leads all NCWTS competitors with 608 laps led around the 0.526-mile track.
Little Skinner… Be on the lookout for Skinner’s “Mini Me” prior to the race on Saturday afternoon. Skinner’s grandson will join him for the weekend at Martinsville Speedway and will be wearing a firesuit with the International Truck/Monaco RVs colors just like his grandpa.
