STATESVILLE, N.C. (February 4, 2009) – Randy Moss Motorsports (RMM) is pleased to announce today that Eric Phillips and Doug Wolcott will assume duties as crew chiefs for the two full-time RMM Toyota Tundras in the 2009 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season. Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate Tayler Malsam and the No. 81 Toyota Tundra team will be coached by Doug Wolcott, while Eric Phillips will lead Truck Series veteran Mike Skinner.
In addition, Randy Moss Motorsports has obtained the No. 5 for driver Mike Skinner. Skinner has driven the No. 5 Toyota truck since the end of the 2004 season and will continue his Truck Series legacy with this familiar number.
Doug Wolcott will look to lead Tayler Malsam to the 2009 Rookie of the Year honors. Wolcott was formerly a crew chief at Bill Davis Racing, where he guided driver Scott Speed to a win at Dover International Speedway in May of 2008 and ended the NCWTS championship point standings in the eleventh position with four different rookie drivers. Wolcott and Malsam first teamed up together in the 2008 Truck Series season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway and earned a 21st-place finish.
Eric Phillips, a five-year veteran crew chief in the Truck Series, has been with RMM for four years. In 2004, Phillips led Travis Kvapil to Victory Lane at Michigan International Speedway, recording Toyota Motorsports' first NASCAR win. The veteran leader has won a total of seven races in the NCWTS, along with a runner-up finish in the 2005 championship point standings with driver Dennis Setzer.
"We are very excited to have two veteran crew chiefs on board for the 2009 season," said team co-owner Randy Moss. "Eric has been with Randy Moss Motorsports for some time now and has done a great job and Doug has shown that he knows how to bring out the best in a rookie driver. We are real excited about what these guys can do together on the track and can't wait to get to Daytona next week."
Announcements regarding sponsorships for the No. 81 and No. 5 RMM Toyota Tundras will come in the near future.
