Tayler Malsam – No. 81 One Eighty Toyota Tundra

Pre-Race Notes and Quotes

Talladega Superspeedway

Mountain Dew 250

October 31, 2009

MALSAM AT TALLADEGA: Tayler Malsam will be making his 24th start in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) when the green flag drops for the Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway Saturday afternoon. This will be Malsam’s first NCWTS start at the 2.66-mile track, but he has been to the track in an ARCA RE/MAX Series car. Malsam took part in the ARCA RE/MAX Series race in Talladega last year, but his day was cut short when he was involved in a lap 11 multi-car accident.

MALSAM’S RIDE: Crew Chief Doug Wolcott and the No. 81 team are utilizing chassis 79 for this weekend’s event. This is the same car the team utilized in the season opening race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Malsam drove to a 10th-place finish in that event.

MALSAM’S THOUGHTS ON TALLADEGA: “I went to Talladega last season in an ARCA car and didn’t have a lot of luck, so I’m hoping for better things this time around. Obviously the most important thing at a place like Talladega is to be around at the end, so we’ll try to be a little patient for a while and see if we can avoid any problems. Our last couple of races in the One Eighty Toyota Tundra have been a little rough, so we are hoping that we can finish the season off strong. A good finish at Talladega would get us off to a good start for this final stretch.”

THE SEASON’S STATS: The No. 81 team has posted one top-five and 10 top-10 finishes in 21 events this season. Malsam posted his best career finish at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., when he took the checkered flag in the fifth spot. He currently holds down 12th position in the driver points battle, sitting 89 markers outside the top 10.

WATCH AND LISTEN: Race coverage will be televised on SPEED and heard live on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio Channel 128, beginning at 4 p.m. (ET).

Mike Skinner – No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator Toyota Tundra

Pre-Race Notes and Quotes

Talladega Superspeedway

Mountain Dew 250

October 31, 2009

SKINNER AT TALLADEGA: Mike Skinner, driver of the No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator Toyota Tundra, has competed in three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) events on the 2.66-mile superspeedway and has never finished outside of the top 15. Skinner also has 2 top-10 qualifying efforts to his credit. In addition, the 1995 Truck Series champion has made 16 starts at the track in the Sprint Cup Series and has scored one top-five and three top-10 finishes in competition in that series.

PHILLIPS’ CHASSIS CHOICE: Crew Chief Eric Phillips and the No. 5 Randy Moss Motorsports team will utilize chassis MDM-45 for this weekend’s event. This is not the same truck the team ran in the 2009 season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

THIS SEASON’S STATS: The No. 5 team has posted eight top-five and 14 top-10 finishes in 21 events this season, including three wins, which came at Kansas Speedway, Iowa Speedway and Gateway (St. Louis) International Raceway. Skinner holds down the third spot in the NCWTS driver point standings, 102 markers behind second place and 326 points out of first.

SKINNER’S THOUGHTS ON TALLADEGA: “Every track we go to you can be a victim of circumstance, which was pretty clear last weekend in Martinsville. You can get caught up in somebody else’s melee, especially with the pit road situation the way it is with us not being able to take tires and fuel at the same time. That opens up the opportunity to have a lot more crazy things happen to you, which we’ve had happen to us a couple of times this year. Talladega - it’s just really easy to get caught up in what they call the big one. We’ve seen it in the Sprint Cup Series, in Nationwide and the Camping World Truck Series, but I think that anywhere we go that can happen to you. I think that if I’m Ron Hornaday, I want to get through Talladega. I know we do. We’re fighting to stay in the top three in points. If Matt Crafton has a hiccup or two, then we can feasibly get second, but we don’t want to end up fifth. We’re going to try to protect where we’re at right now.”

SKINNER CAREER NCWTS STATS: Mike Skinner has scored 28 victories in 200 starts in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition and has earned 88 top-five and 127 top-10 finishes since making his first start in Phoenix (and going on to win the event) in 1995. With the addition of last weekend’s pole at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, he has also earned 50 pole positions during that time.

WATCH AND LISTEN: Race coverage will be televised on SPEED and heard live on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio Channel 128, beginning at 4 p.m. (ET).

STARTING FROM THE POLE AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY, LAPPED TRAFFIC SPOILS SKINNER’S 200TH CAREER TRUCK SERIES START

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (October 24, 2009) – Making the 200th start of his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) career, Mike Skinner started the weekend off strong by capturing his 50th career pole position on Friday. After running in the top five for much of the event on race day, an incident involving several lapped cars resulted in damage to the No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator Toyota Tundra and Skinner was relegated to a 23rd place finish.

Rain showers forced NASCAR to shorten the first scheduled practice Friday afternoon, but Skinner found his groove early and posted the quickest lap times in both of the day’s practice sessions. Skinner was the 11th truck to take to the track for his two-lap qualifying run Friday evening and had no problem backing up those speeds. The veteran driver was gunning for his 50th career truck series pole and posted a speed of 95.733 miles per hour around the .526-mile track, which earned him the top spot on the starting grid.

Rain showers again blanketed the Martinsville area Saturday morning, but the skies cleared in time for the race to begin with only a slight delay. Leading the field to the green flag, Skinner settled into the third position early in the race after communicating to crew chief Eric Phillips that the truck was pretty loose throughout the corners.

The first pit stop of the day came during a caution period on lap 55 and Phillips called for air pressure and chassis adjustments to help tighten up the truck. Several differing pit strategies were taking place during the event, and Skinner and several other front runners lined up in the middle of the pack for the lap 59 restart. Patiently working his way past slower traffic, the veteran driver and three-time NCWTS winner at the Virginia track, made his way into the top 15 by lap 74. He continued to climb through the field and held down the 10th spot when a caution flag flew on lap 95.

Skinner took the green flag for the lap 100 restart in eighth place, and with the help of former driver and veteran spotter Tim Fedewa, he was able to fight his way into fifth place in just 10 laps. Though he complained of a tight handling truck, Skinner stood solidly in fourth place when disaster struck. Caught behind two lapped trucks who made contact with one another in turn two, Skinner had no place to go on the tight short track in an effort to avoid becoming part of the incident. The Randy Moss Motorsports crew went to work to change the resulting flat right front tire and repair the damaged fender. After taking the green for the lap 174 restart, the crew realized the sway bar was also broken. Skinner was forced into the pits for more repairs and lost several laps in the process. When the checkered flag flew for the finish, the No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator Toyota held down 23rd place.

Though disappointed with the results, Skinner was able to maintain third place in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver point standings. He now stands 326 points behind series leader Ron Hornaday and 102 markers out of second.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to action next weekend at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. The Mountain Dew 250 will be broadcast live at 4 p.m. (ET) on SPEED TV and on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio on Saturday, October 31.

TRANSMISSION WOES END DAY EARLY FOR MALSAM IN MARTINSVILLE

MARTINSVILLE, VA (October 24) – Mother Nature wreaked havoc on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway last weekend, forcing shortened practice sessions and a race day delay. Rookie contender Tayler Malsam and his One Eighty Racing team were looking forward to getting back on track after a month long Truck Series break, but their day was cut short on Saturday after transmission issues forced them out of the event. Malsam earned a 28th-place finish in the Kroger 200.

Rain showers early in the day on Friday shortened the first practice and delayed the start of qualifying, but the skies cleared and Malsam’s was the 25th truck to take to the track for his two-lap qualifying run Friday evening. The Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate posted a speed of 95.675 miles per hour around the .526-mile track, which earned the One Eighty Toyota Tundra 10th place on the starting grid.

Rain showers once again blanketed the area Saturday morning and into early afternoon, but NASCAR and track officials worked diligently to dry the track in a timely manner once the precipitation finally stopped. Led by teammate Mike Skinner, who was making his 200th start in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition, Malsam fell several positions in the early laps of the Kroger 200 after communicating to his Randy Moss Motorsports crew that the truck was tight in the center of the corners and off.

Crew chief Doug Wolcott made plans to make a chassis adjustment to the Toyota Tundra during the first pit stop of the day, which came during a caution on lap 35 of the 200-lap race. Wolcott opted for fuel only during the stop and Malsam returned to the track for the lap 39 restart in the 14th position.

There were several differing pit strategies taking place during the event and Malsam was able to run as high as seventh in the middle stages of the race. A yellow flag just prior to the halfway point enabled Wolcott to call his driver back into the pits for four fresh tires and fuel. Malsam returned to the track in the 20th spot and was able to work his way into the top 15 by lap 116. The Seattle-area native was running in 13th place on a lap 120 restart when he suddenly radioed to his crew that there was something wrong with the truck, which eventually stopped on the track. After getting a push into the pit area, the RMM team assessed the problem to be in the transmission and was forced to call it a day. Malsam was credited with a 28th place finish in the event.

Malsam lost only one spot in the driver point standings and now holds down 12th place. Eighty nine points separate him from the top 10.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to Talladega Superspeedway next weekend for the running of the Mountain Dew 250. The event will be broadcast live at 4 p.m. (ET) on SPEED TV and on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio on Saturday, October 31.

Mike Skinner – No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator Toyota Tundra

Pre-Race Notes and Quotes

Martinsville Speedway

Kroger 200

October 24, 2009

MAKING HIS 200th START: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) veteran Mike Skinner will make his 200th career truck series start when the green flag waves for the start of the Kroger 200 this Saturday at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway. Skinner began his career in the series in 1995, starting his first race – and going on to win - at Phoenix International Raceway. Mike Skinner has scored 28 victories in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition and has earned 88 top-five and 128 top-10 finishes during his NCWTS career.

50TH FIRST: In addition to making his 200th start this weekend, Skinner will be gunning for the 50th pole position of his NCWTS career. Skinner tops all the competition in this category and has led the field to the green twice this season and on two previous occasions in Martinsville.

SKINNER AT MARTINSVILLE: The driver of the No. 5 PC*MILER Navigator Toyota has competed in more truck series events at Martinsville than at any other track, having made 13 starts at the .526-mile Virginia track. Skinner has visited victory lane on three occasions (including both events in 2007) and has earned six top-five and nine top-10 finishes. He started from the pole position three times and has eight top-10 qualifying efforts. In addition, the 1995 Truck Series champion has competed in 16 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races on the concrete oval, scoring one top five and three top-10 finishes.

SKINNER’S THOUGHTS ON MARTINSVILLE: “I look forward to going back to Martinsville with Eric [Phillips – crew chief] because we went there for the first time together in the spring race and I feel like we’re a better team now than we were then. I think we ended up with a halfway decent finish then, so it’s a good racetrack for us. I love Martinsville. I love the fans up there and the whole setting. Short track racing is like drag racing with two hard, sharp corners, so I always enjoy going to Martinsville. My very first race there, if I’m not mistaken, was a Cup race in 1986. I ran my very first Winston Cup race at Martinsville and I’ll never forget Tim Richmond was on the pole and I think Ricky Rudd won the race. I’ll never forget standing there and being in the race with Darrell Waltrip and Richard Petty and all these great drivers and champions. They started doing the National Anthem and I basically got teary eyed. I think about that moment every race when they are doing the National Anthem. I think about that moment at Martinsville, Virginia. It’s a special place to me.”

AND ON HIS TRUCK SERIES CAREER: “We left the truck series in 1997 and didn’t come back full time until 2004. I don’t have any regrets about what we did in the Sprint Cup Series, but if we’d have stayed in the truck series we probably could have set some records that would be hard for anybody to ever catch. It’s a double edged sword. I don’t regret that, but I have to think that I could easily be making my 400th start or however many races there have been and the fact of some of the stats that we could have put up there. We’ve got 27 or 28 wins or something like that and 49 poles. I just wonder what those numbers could have been if we would have stayed in the trucks the whole time. It’s pretty awesome, it’s an honor. I don’t know if I’ll be around to make 300 or not, but it sure as heck looks like I’m going to make the 200th one next weekend.”

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT: Both Skinner and his teammate Tayler Malsam tested their Toyota Tundras at Little Rock Speedway located in Rockingham, North Carolina in preparation for this weekend’s event. Though the session on Monday, October 12th was cut short by rain, the team was able to get in several practice runs in the morning. Prior to that test session, Skinner had never been at that track.

PHILLIPS’ CHASSIS CHOICE: Crew Chief Eric Phillips and the No. 5 Randy Moss Motorsports team will utilize chassis MDM-106 for this weekend’s event. One of the strongest trucks in the RMM stables, the team has run this Toyota Tundra in seven previous outings this season, including the March Martinsville Speedway event. This is also the truck with which the team was victorious at both Iowa Speedway and Gateway (St. Louis) International Raceway events.

THIS SEASON’S STATS: The No. 5 team has posted eight top-five and 14 top-10 finishes in 20 events this season, including three wins, which came at Kansas Speedway, Iowa Speedway and Gateway (St. Louis) International Raceway. Skinner holds down the third spot in the NCWTS driver point standings, 58 markers behind

second place and 255 points out of first.

BRING YOUR SHARPIE: On behalf of Toyota, Mike Skinner will be signing autographs for fans in the midway area of the track grounds at the Toyota PitPass display on Saturday, October 24 from 10-10:30 a.m. Many of his fellow Toyota drivers will also take part in the event.

WATCH AND LISTEN: Race coverage will be televised on SPEED and heard live on select affiliates of MRN Radio and Sirius-XM NASCAR Radio Channel 128, beginning at 1 p.m. (ET).

POINT AND CLICK: Fans can continue to vote for their favorite driver for the Most Popular Driver Award through the end of October. The results of the online balloting will be announced at the NCWTS awards banquet at the end of the season. Visit www.nascar.com for more details and to cast your vote for Mike.
